Citizens Bank, Batesville School District honor Ron Mergy for going 'Above & Beyond'
Ron Mergy, Counselor at Batesville Junior High School, was named Monday to receive the February “Citizens Bank Above and Beyond Award.”
Since 2012, Citizens Bank and the Batesville School District have recognized staff members who go “above and beyond” to realize the district’s mission to empower today's students for tomorrow's challenges. Staff in all schools and departments throughout the district nominate award recipients, who receive a Certificate of Excellence, a $25 gift card and a 16-ounce insulated cup from Citizens Bank. The award is presented at the Batesville School Board meeting each month.
With humility and dedication, Mr. Mergy consistently puts others first, providing extraordinary support to students and their families. Colleagues said of him:

Whether addressing academic concerns, social-emotional needs, or personal challenges, he approaches each situation with compassion, patience, and professionalism. His commitment and tireless efforts truly make a lasting difference in the lives of those he serves.”
“To me, Above & Beyond means giving more than what is required and putting students first, even when it costs personal time. Ron does this every day. He helps families in need, delivers beds and mattresses, fixes things like washing machines so students have clean clothes, and quietly steps in wherever help is needed. Most people never see these things because Ron is humble and never looks for recognition. He simply cares deeply about his students and their families—and that makes all the difference. I have worked with Ron for almost 10 years, and he is very deserving of this recognition.”
“Mr. Mergy goes above and beyond for the students. He will do anything to help our students and families. He even gets things for their homes. He has had food delivered to student's homes with his own money. So many things that he does go unseen by most because he is humble. He also gets donations for Friday food bags to ensure students don't go hungry! Mr. Ron is the best!”
“He does a lot of things behind-the-scenes for our students. If there is a need, he doesn’t hesitate—whether it’s before school, after school, or on the weekends.”
