Citizens Bank, Sloan-Hendrix Schools honor Valerie Matheny for 'Excellence in Citizenship'

Valerie Matheny, Business Teacher and FBLA Leader at Sloan-Hendrix High School, was named to receive the October “Citizens Bank Excellence in Citizenship” award. 

With this new program, Citizens Bank and Sloan-Hendrix School District aim to recognize students and staff members who are committed to living out the district’s mission to preserve yesterday, excel today and prepare for tomorrow. Staff nominate the award recipients who receive a Certificate of Excellence, an Excellence in Citizenship mug, a Greyhound Paw Print ink pen and keychain and a $25 Walmart gift card from Citizens Bank. Sloan-Hendrix Superintendent Clifford Rorex and Citizens Bank Branch Manager Kimberly Moore presented the award.

“Valerie is devoted to being a part of the community and always goes the extra mile for anyone in need,” said Clifford Rorex, Superintendent of Sloan-Hendrix School District. “She is a mentor and friend to her coworkers and always puts the needs of her students first.”
