Beyond a Banker - Betina Ramsey

I interviewed the first time to get my foot in the door right out of college. I was told then that a banker wore many hats. I thought I was ready, but the interviewer didn't. Took a few more years and then I got a break and started in Marketing. I have been blessed to work in a variety of areas in the bank and learn more than I ever thought possible about service and banking. Still learning today.
That it is all fun! Well... a lot of it is fun. We work with a wide variety of associates. But, it's also tough. There are three of us that work on projects for the entire corporation! So, we manage a lot of different projects! That's good and sometimes a little stressful. We do fun things - organize activities and promotions that are fun. We also work on processes and things in project management that sometimes aren't. Balance is a good thing!
Beyond a Banker means that we look for ways to help. Whether it's a customer or community or business - we are constantly looking for ways to improve tools and services to help improve financial lives. From teaching kids in the classroom about banking to offering products online for instant access to loan options to help find the right fit to Certified Financial Coaches who are trained to help with budgeting - we are going beyond being an order taker. We are looking at People First and how we can walk beside and help be your financial partner.
tell us about yourself:
My kids. They drive me to be better in all things I do. Being a Mom makes me a better associate and brings a servant mentality.
My kids are very involved in sports and activities, so we are at the gym or at the ballfield or doing something together outside!
Jack of all Trades
SPORTS! It’s March Madness time – the best time of year. Really, about all I watch is sports, some Food Network and HGTV.
At home with my family.
I love sushi or Mexican food. So, in Batesville – Dora and Las Playitas are faves.
My kids and that to do list in the back of my mind that I need to get completed.
I love to cook and I love sports. Everything is a competition in our house. One special thing – I’m involved in an adult group that supports our local FCA. I have cooked at our FCA Character Camp for the last 12 years. I get to plan and cook for around 120 kids/adults – it’s a way I can use my planning and cooking skills to serve those families and the Lord!
My first real job was working for Glynda Turley. She is an artist. I started in Sales and finished in Marketing.
Ramsey Rules
Find your voice. When you start out you question how much you know but as you grow in your career you become stronger and find your voice. Don’t be afraid to share your voice. Each voice is important and it’s important for multiple voices to be heard at the table.
for women's history month:
Mary. She gave birth as a virgin to the Messiah and lived to see him rise from His grave. As a mother, I would like to know more about the joy she found in her child and who He was, but as a believer, how it made her heart sing once she saw him after the stone was rolled away.
What woman in your own life has been an inspiration to you?
Mrs. Angeline Hawk was an inspiration. She was like a second mom to me. As an adult she taught me more about faith and family and that being a strong woman was a blessing. She welcomed us into her family, and we talked every day. When she left this earth, I was honored to be asked to speak at her funeral. So lucky to have had her in my life and lucky to be someone that loved her.
What piece of advice would you give to other women in banking?
You don’t have to change who you are to grow where you are. If you can’t be who you truly are where you work - it may be time to find a better fit culturally.
