BATESVILLE – August 13, 2012 – The Second Annual Citizens Bank Education Initiative Awards banquet was held Monday, August 13, at Elizabeth’s Restaurant in Batesville. Karen Shaw, Senior Vice President of Citizens Bank, and Batesville Schools Superintendent Dr. Randy Willison announced the recipients of $15,000 in grant money to fund teachers’ projects, as selected by the Lyon College Education Committee.
The banquet, hosted by Citizens Bank, included a dinner to honor grant recipients, school board members, selection committee members, and educators from the Batesville School District.
Recipients of the Citizens Bank awards, the schools they represent, and their projects include:
· Pam Baxter, Sulphur Rock Magnet, “Outdoor Ecology Lab”
· Kathy Bruner, Batesville Preschool, “Pre-K Common Core”
· Regina Forehand, West Magnet, “Tutors, Inc.”
· Mandie Hall, West Magnet, “Creating Kindergarten “Smarties”
· Patty Mishark, Eagle Mountain Magnet, “Kindle Touches Literacy”
· Ann Walmsley, Eagle Mountain Magnet, “Boys will be Readers”
“Citizens Bank is honored to award grants to these exceptional teachers and excited that they represent several schools in the Batesville School District,” Shaw said.
The Lyon College Education Committee reviewed many grant applications and are confident their selections award grant monies toward projects that will improve not only students of individual classrooms but schools as a whole. This was the second year for the initiative and Citizens Bank was pleased with the interest from Batesville educators.
“We stand behind our commitment to excellence in education,” said John Dews, President and CEO of Citizens Bank. “This initiative, along with the awards banquet, is a wonderful opportunity of incentivizing and then recognizing the hard work of our educators. We predict excitement about this initiative will increase each year as we continue to partner with the school district and Lyon College.”
