BATESVILLE – January 25, 2013 – Eleven area youths are participating in the 2013 Independence County All-Star Steer Show, which is now in its seventh year. This year, all the participants are from Cedar Ridge and Cave City, but the program is open to all Independence County FFA and 4-H members.
The youth recently gathered at the University of Arkansas Experiment Station near Cushman to select their calf (first photo below), which they will feed, groom and ultimately show at the Independence County Fair. Citizens Bank provided the steers so the youth would have no upfront costs to participate in the program.
Charles Kunkel, agriculture teacher at Cave City, describes the program (middle photo) and provides tips to the youth at the recent workshop.
