Date of Release:

BATESVILLE, Ark. – July 29, 2013 – Citizens Bank and the Southside School District will reveal the recipients of $5,000 in grant money in the First Annual Citizens Bank - Southside Education Initiative at a banquet on Monday, August 5.

Following the overwhelming success of its mini-grant program with the Batesville School District, Citizens Bank earlier this year decided to expand its Education Initiative to Southside.

“We are so impressed by the deep personal commitment of our educators, which frequently finds them spending money out of their own pockets to enhance the classroom experience,” said Penny Thornton, Citizens Bank Executive Assistant, who is championing the program at Southside with Lloyd Davis, Citizens Bank Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer.

“This Education Initiative will help support teachers’ efforts to elevate the quality of education in the Southside district,” Davis said.

“Community involvement is extremely important to the success of our district’s overall educational system,” said Roger Rich, Superintendent of the Southside School District.  “We are very appreciative that Citizens Bank has extended their Education Initiative concept and invited our personnel to apply for grant funding.”

The Southside grant recipients were selected by a panel representing the Social Sciences and Secondary Education Division at Lyon College.  “There were some great proposals submitted,” the Selection Committee reported.

The awards banquet will be held at Elizabeth’s Restaurant in Batesville.
