BATESVILLE – January 20, 2014 – Alysia “Lisa” Horton, Media Specialist at Sulphur Rock Magnet School, was named today as the January recipient of the “Citizens Bank Above & Beyond Award” for the Batesville School District.
Citizens Bank and the district two years ago created the award to recognize school staff members who go “above and beyond” in their service to students, parents, their school, peers and the district. Personnel at all schools nominate recipients of the monthly Above & Beyond award, which includes a certificate from the Board of Education and a $50 gift card from Citizens Bank.
Nominations for Ms. Horton mentioned her efforts to remodel the school’s media center and create a more inviting atmosphere to inspire students to want to read. Some sample comments:
- “This semester, we had a poet and an author visit, two book fairs, a CSI-style ‘mystery night for literacy.’ Students can’t wait to get to the media center each day for books!!”
- “Many hours of her personal time were given to make sure our students had a beautiful new library when school started.”
- “Lisa has taken on her new position as media specialist with passion!”
- “She is awesome!”
