BATESVILLE – January 22, 2013 – Kenny Smith, an Environmental Services employee at Central Magnet Elementary School in Batesville, was named today as the January recipient of the Citizens Bank Above & Beyond Award. Citizens Bank and the Batesville School District created the award to recognize school staff members who go “above and beyond” in their service to the district.
Personnel throughout all schools nominate prospective recipients of the monthly Above and Beyond award, which includes a certificate from the Board of Education and a $50 gift card from Citizens Bank.
Several forms recommending Kenny Smith for the award mentioned his smiling face, positive attitude and pride in his work. According to one nomination, “Often times, Mister Kenny asks what he can do to assist any faculty member regardless of the tasks he has at hand. The students look to Kenny as a role model, as he welcomes them by name each morning – kindergarten through sixth grade.” Another nominee wrote, “On ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Wear Pink Day,’ Mister Kenny did not own anything pink, but he bought a pink shirt to wear in honor of three teachers at Central who have had breast cancer.”
