BATESVILLE, Ark. – August 2, 2013 – Citizens Bank will announce on Monday, August 12, the recipients of its 2013 Citizens Bank Education Initiative grants for educators in the Batesville Public School District. The announcement will be made at a banquet for the recipients to be held at 6:30 p.m. at Elizabeth’s Restaurant in Batesville.
This is the third year in which Citizens Bank has made $15,000 available to educators to apply for the grants, which are intended to directly benefit students, encourage and reward imaginative teaching, and provide a vehicle through which educators can share their best ideas.
“We are pleased that this program has proved to be so popular among educators and impactful to the educational experience in Batesville,” said John Dews, Citizens Bank President and Chief Executive Officer. “Through this initiative, we will continue to strive to enhance the quality of teaching and learning, and help improve student performance.”
“We appreciate the Selection Committee that is comprised of members from the Social Sciences and Secondary Education Division at Lyon College, who have again evaluated the grant applications and determined the recipients,” said Karen Shaw, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Citizens Bank. “The entries are judged and selections made based on pre-determined criteria with the goal of impacting as many children and educators as possible.”
“The district is grateful to Citizens Bank for its continued support of our pursuit of excellence in education,” said Batesville Schools Superintendent Dr. Randy Willison. “The attainment of a quality educational system is the collective result of community involvement and teachers’ commitment. By all measures, this program has been an overwhelming success.”
The favorable outcomes achieved in Batesville prompted Citizens Bank to expand the Education Initiative concept to additional school districts in its market areas. The first annual recipients of the Citizens Bank Education Initiative with the Southside School District will be announced on Monday, August 5.About The Citizens Bank
